Donate funds to restore Kanangra

The Sydney Heritage Fleet is committed to restoring Kanangra to her 1960s splendour with the aim of having her celebrate her 120th anniversary by sailing under the Harbour Bridge on that iconic structure's centenary in 2032.

Although most of our work is carried out by volunteers, we need considerable funding to purchase materials and pay for necessary services. We have benefitted from many generous supporters, some of whom are listed below.

Specific opportunities to support our restoration are shown below. Please give generously to help get Sydney's iconic Kanangra back on the water by 2032.

Restoration of steel hull in Aft Gland Space Approx. $50,000

Restoration of BRIDGE, Forward, Exterior Deck approx. $11,700

Work includes:

a. Repair or replacement of 10 hull frames (frames 21A to 30A)

b. Repair or replacement of 6 deck beams

c. Replacement of 8 hull plates.

Restoration of BRIDGE, Forward, Exterior Deck approx. $11,700

Work includes:

a. Complete construction of deck beams (funded)

b. Installation of longitudinal T & G timber decking

c. Purchase of, preparation and installation of athwart-ship T & G timber decking

d. Treatment of space between deck timber layers and above top decking level

Restoration of Forward Wheelhouse Approx. $4,800

Restoration of BRIDGE, Forward, Exterior Deck approx. $11,700

Restoration of Forward Starboard Staircase Approx. $5,600

Work includes:

a. Supply of materials to construct wheelhouse framing, floors, roof, doors & windows plus internal & external linings

b. Repair or refurbish steering motor gearbox, gypsy & electric motor

c. Repair or refurbish steering motor electrical control cabinet & equipment

Restoration of Forward Starboard Staircase Approx. $5,600

Repairs and restoration of “Crossley” main engine Approx. $12,500

Restoration of Forward Starboard Staircase Approx. $5,600

Work includes:

a. Repair and strengthen the staircase structure

b. Restore the damaged lining timber around staircase

c. Manufacture varnished timber spindles and insert in staircase rails

d. Secure and install non-slip flooring covering on staircase treads

Repairs and restoration of “Crossley” main engine Approx. $12,500

Work includes:

a. Removal of each piston in turn to repair damaged equipment, including:

i. Pistons, sleeves

ii. Compression rings

iii. Oil scraper rings

iv. Con-rods, bearings etc

b. Service main engine fuel injectors

c. Manufacture engine gaskets and seals

d. Restoration of gauges fitted to engine

e. Service fuel , oil & compressed air valves

Restoration of exterior seats Approx. $7,500

Repairs and restoration of “Crossley” main engine Approx. $12,500

Work includes:

a. Repair &/or restoration of Bridge Deck, Forward and Aft exterior seats

b. Repair &/or restoration of Main Deck exterior seats

Restoration of No 1 Diesel Generator Approx. $2,300

Restoration of Main Deck Superstructure between Staircases (Port & Starboard) Approx. $13,700

Restoration of Starboard Aft Staircase Approx. $6,630

Work includes:

a. Disassemble engine as required to restore engine components

b. Reassemble restored engine to operating condition

c. Repair &/or restore attached air compressor

d. Restore 110 Volt DC generator

Restoration of Starboard Aft Staircase Approx. $6,630

Restoration of Main Deck Superstructure between Staircases (Port & Starboard) Approx. $13,700

Restoration of Starboard Aft Staircase Approx. $6,630

Work includes:

a. Repair and strengthen the staircase structure

b. Restore the damaged lining timber around staircase

a. Restoration of Main Engine exhaust pipe access shaft (Port - requiring fire isolation)

b. Restoration of Auxiliaries exhaust pipe access shaft (Starboard – requiring fire isolation)

c. Restoration of exterior bulkheads, internal & external linings, windows & window frames

d. Construction of electrical services compartments in port & starboard bulkheads.

e. Restoration of internal seats
