Our dedicated teams of volunteers are actively restoring our 1912 'K' class ferry Kanangra at the Sydney Heritage Fleet's Rozelle Bay shipyard at 4 James Craig Road. You can visit us on the second Sunday of each month. The tours last two hours and offer a chance to go aboard heritage ferry Kanangra while it is being restored. Full details are given below. Participants must be over 18, fit enough to climb steep stairs and confidently walk on uneven surfaces. We will provide basic PPE items: hard hats, safety glasses and Hi Vis vests for participants. However flat-soled covered footwear must be worn, while bringing a light windproof jacket and sun/rain wear is recommended.

Join us for a unique recreation of 1912 ferry Kanangra's routes to Mosman and Taronga Park Zoo aboard MV Bundeena on 17 October 2024. And, as a special extra, we will sail past Kanangra herself where she is being restored on the Sea Heritage Dock at the Sydney Heritage Fleet's shipyard on Rozelle Bay.
Lasting 4 hours, the tour will begin from Pirrama Park at Pyrmont Point at 11 am on Thursday 17 October and will return you there at 3 pm. Bring your own lunch and buy refreshments on board.
Expert commentary will tell how Kanangra began life as a steam ferry in 1912 converting to diesel in 1959. For 70 years, she transported over 40 million passengers across inner Sydney Harbour through two world wars, the Great Depression and the opening of both the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House before being retired in 1985 and preserved by the Sydney Heritage Fleet.
The cruise will start and finish at the wharf in Pirrama Park at the tip of Pyrmont Point (best access via Light Rail to John Square). Our guide will meet you at the wharf for boarding and a safety briefing.

Meeting Point: Northern end Pirrama Park, Pyrmont - opposite the apartments at 11 Pirrama Road, Pyrmont and across the water from White Bay (Balmain). The cruise on MV Bundeena will start and finish at the wharf in Pirrama Park (the best access is via Light Rail to John Square). Attendees should arrive by 10:30 AM SHARP.
All attendees should be 18+ years. You will be walking on ramps and wharves and will require an average level of fitness and mobility. You need to wear sturdy, comfortable covered footwear. It is advisable to bring a light wind jacket, a sunhat or rainwear, as appropriate, and your lunch. Unfortunately, MV Bundeena is inaccessible for wheelchairs and walkers.
